Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The PhD program in the Faculty of Business and Economics may be undertaken in the principal areas of research offered by the faculty, including accounting and finance, business law and taxation, econometrics and business statistics, economics, health economics, management, marketing, and policy studies. The principal component of the PhD is a major thesis of up to 100,000 words, embodying the results of a research project. The thesis is written under the direct supervision of a member of the academic staff. Students and their supervisors are responsible for developing the research program to be followed. The program should be designed to take no more than four years of full-time equivalent candidature.

Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
A Master of Philosophy thesis is expected to make a contribution to an existing body of knowledge by applying, clarifying, critiquing or interpreting that knowledge. It may be undertaken in the broad discipline areas of accounting and finance, business law and taxation, econometrics and business statistics, economics, health economics, management, marketing and policy studies. The principal component of the program is a thesis of up to 50,000 words, embodying the results of a research project. The Master of Philosophy may also be undertaken through a combination of coursework and supervised research.
